HISTORII
PIVOVARU

WE WERE GRANTED THE RIGHT TO  BREW BEER

1252

King Ottokar II of Bohemia granted brewing privileges to the market town of Přerov, including the right to brew beer.

THE FOUNDATION STONE IS LAID

1872

The foundation stone of the joint-stock brewery was laid. Its official name was “First Moravian Joint-Stock Brewery with Malt House in Přerov”.

THE FIRST BATCH OF BEER

1873

The year the brewery was ceremonially consecrated and the first batch of beer was brewed. The beer began to be sold under a registered trademark.

RULES TAKE SHAPE

1913

A new cartel was formed under the name – Protective Association of Bohemian and Moravian Breweries in Přerov.

CONSOLIDATION CONTINUES

1960

On 1 July 1960, a new  regional enterprise was established – Severomoravské pivovary, national enterprise Přerov, formed by the merger of the national enterprises Hanácké pivovary Přerov and Ostravské pivovary Ostrava.

ZUBR MAKES ITS MARK

1995

The brewery received its first award from the prestigious Czech tasting competition Zlatý pohár Pivex  – Zubr lager won 3rd place.

THE HUNDRED-YEAR FLOOD

1997

In the summer of that year, the brewery was struck by devastating floods – known as the hundred-year flood.

NEW BREWHOUSE

2001

In February 2001, the  brewery began building a new brewhouse. The new wort production technology was to be fully automated. It was also in 2001 that the first advertising spot was broadcast on nationwide Czech TV channels.

FOUR TIMES HOPPED

2014

Launch of the new four-times-hopped 11° beer, ZUBR Grand. Within just two years, it became the best-selling beer in the brewery’s portfolio.

CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP

2023

The Moravian breweries Zubr, Holba and Litovel were acquired by Kofola.

WITH NEW ENERGY

2025

The Zubr brand receives a  new visual identity. The logo, packaging and communication are all changed. But the most important thing remains – the quality of the beer.

How Zubr is made

Brewhouse

Where it all begins

We don’t look for shortcuts.
We brew slowly and honestly.
From ingredients with origin and character.
This is where it is decided
how the Zubr will be.

Fermentation cellar

Zubr ferments

At this stage, the wort turns
into young beer and most
of the alcohol is formed.

Nothing is hidden in the open vats.

Every detail is visible; the brewmaster
has everything constantly in sight.

Lagering
cellar

We give it time

The beer slowly matures here.

We don’t rush anything.

We give it as much time
as it needs.

This is where the flavour develops
and the character matures.

Filtration

At the right moment

We separate the yeast that
by this stage has already  
fulfilled its role.

We don't interfere with the beer
any more than necessary.

The filtration process is therefore
as gentle as possible.

The result is a clear, bright beer.

Bottling hall

At the right moment

We bottle only when
the beer is ready.

No earlier.
No later.

No unnecessary steps,
fast and precise.

So that it stays
exactly what it is.

Laboratory

Trust, but verify

We check every batch from the start
to the end of the production process.

We check raw materials, monitor
production parameters, the finished beer,
the microbiological cleanliness
of the operation and sensory quality.

Not because we're not sure.

But because we value the respect
we have earned through hard work.

Logistics

Zubr can head out into the  world

From this moment, the beer is on its way.

Whether it goes to the city
or stays in the region,
it has to arrive in the same condition
as when it left the brewery.

We take great care with time, transport, storage and handling.

We’ll be glad to show you  just where Zubr is made. You’ll see where all this honest work is done and  where there's no skimping on the job. You’ll walk through the brewery, discover its story and see how a beer with strength and character is born.

Information about tours

  • Tours are open only to those over 18 years of age, or those over 15 as part of lessons and accompanied by teachers
  • Minimum/maximum number of visitors: 10/25 people per group
  • Visiting times: Monday -  Friday 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
  • Tour duration: approx. 1 hour
  • It is best to book the tour at least one week in advance

Tour price list

  • 150 CZK - Tour only, without  tasting (for primary and secondary school students only)
  • 300 CZK - Tour + tasting (1  × 0.3 l from the lagering cellar
  • Price list valid from 1 November 2024
